Earline Johnson

b. 1996

American Artist

Earline Johnson was born in Pensacola, Florida. With her mom serving in the Navy, Johnson was raised across multiple states. Due to having no permanent residence and her mom’s Navy background, she found security in the one thing that never changed, the ocean. Her sculptures focus on investigating the concerns placed upon the ocean and its inhabitants. Using ceramics, wood, metal, and resin Earline brings awareness to her aquatic concerns. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Three-Dimensional Media with a Minor in Art History from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Earline Johnson is working as an Educator at the Museum of Design Atlanta and a Fine Artist.

About: About
Artist Statement

As an artist, I am driven by a deep passion for the natural world and a desire to use my work to promote positive change. My love for the ocean and its creatures has been a constant source of inspiration throughout my life, and it is a theme that runs through much of my art.

When I work with ceramics, I feel a connection to the earth and the elements. Through the process of shaping clay and firing it in a kiln, I am able to channel my passion and creativity into tangible, beautiful objects that celebrate the beauty and diversity of the natural world. With each piece I create, I hope to inspire a sense of awe in the viewer and need to protect our planet’s oceans and ecosystems.

My style is characterized by attention to technique and detail, as well as a willingness to take risks and experiment with new ideas. I am constantly pushing myself to expand and to explore new mediums and techniques. Whether I am working with wood, metals, or other materials, I approach each piece with a sense of passion and purpose, striving to capture the essence of the natural world.

At the heart of my artistic practice is a deep commitment to animal welfare and the idea that all living creatures deserve to be treated with respect and compassion. I am inspired by the work of Peter Singer and others who have dedicated their lives to advocating for animal rights, and I seek to use my art as a means of raising awareness about the urgent need to protect the earth and its creatures from harm.

Ultimately, my art is a reflection of my deepest hopes and dreams - a world where the beauty and complexity of the natural world is celebrated and cherished, and where all living creatures are valued and protected. Through my work, I hope to inspire others to join me in a mission to create a brighter, more sustainable future for us all.
